Garden Island Maintenance Dredging |
 |
Proposed works; The works comprise maintenance dredging of Fleet Base and Garden Island wharves to maintain function for Naval requirements. The works require mechanical dredging plant, including a barge-mounted bucket excavator, and three to four barges, which would be located predominantly at wharves along the western side of Garden Island. The dredging plant will excavate sediment from the sea bed and load it into awaiting barges. Approximately half the sediment excavated will require disposal onshore at a licensed waste management facility, and will be transported from Garden Island in trucks. Maintenance dredging is expected to commence in late April, and will occur between 7 am to 6 pm Monday to Saturday, with no works occurring on Sundays or public holidays. Due to Naval operational requirements, Fleet Base and Garden Island wharves will remain fully operational during the proposed maintenance dredging.
