Typical work activities on Garden Island revolve around marine engineering and naval operations. Specifically these include:
- Ship refits - fitting new parts, upgrading/modernising various aspects of vessels;
- Ship maintenance - hull and deck blasting, repainting vessels;
- Fabrication - design, build and fit new components to vessels;
